Outline of male tail fan

Adult male, protruding

Same as previous, with different focal plane highlighted

At left: L3 male with slightly less developed tail. The animal on the right is L4 male with more developed tail.

Shows fan, hook

Male animal: Fan, hook, half of the body

L4 male with underdeveloped tail

L4 male with underdeveloped tail. (Not yet developed fan. Looks like tulip shape under the dissecting scope, but not under the DIC one.)

A closer (20X) view of L4 hermaphrodite, so you can see the structure of the vulva. The vulva at this stage is a pronounced ring under a dissecting scope.
