Several generations ago, the predecessors of mutants 1-4 were treated with EMS*. The predecessors all looked like the WT in every aspect – such as appearance, reproductive ability, life span, etc. The environment was also identical for all predecessors.

** As you can see on the “Glossary” page, zyg-1 is a temperature sensitive mutant. Thus, in order to have the mutation expressed in the mutant worms, the growth temperature needs to be changed in the worms’ larval stage. Therefore, the worms offspring will show the mutation phenotypes
